  1. Design
  2. Hardware & Software
  3. Mobility
  4. Behavior and
  5. App Capability

1. Design

The Neato Botvac Connected has a D-shaped design makes it able to fit in the corners. While the Roomba 980 comes in a round shape.

The Roomba 980 comes with three buttons; home, spot, and clean. The camera placed at middle will help the machine to keep track of the location. On the other hand, Botvac Connected comes with two buttons; clean and spot. The buttons are located at the bottom, and at the top, an area for scheduling is placed.

2. Hardware and Software

  • Hardware Difference

The Roomba comes with two rotating brushes placed in opposite directions. This is beneficial as it results in less maintenance of the brushes due to less dirt and hair entangled around it. While the Botvac Connected comes with a simple brush which asks more maintenance to make it perform better.

It’s the other fact that the Botvac connected comes with a wider brush than Roomba’s. This means it covers wide area than the Roomba 980.

  • Software Difference

The Roomba 980 and Neato Botvac Connected both have key features like self-charging and scheduling. They allow you to operate them smoothly without worrying about staying at home at the time of cleaning. The robotic vacuum goes to its docking station after it completes the cleaning task. The SLAM (Simulation Localization and Mapping) algorithm is used in both the systems to clean the areas by following as mentioned. Not only this, but the technology also helps the robotic vacuum to update the map at the time of cleaning.

3. Mobility

Both the Neato and Roomba come with a pair rubber wheels in large sizes. These amazing cleaning machines extend the ability to lift up from the ground and cover surfaces that are uneven.

The two different pairs of rollers help the wheels of Roomba 980 to navigate in the home and adjust its height for up to 2 inches for differences in carpet heights, throw rugs, and other tiny obstacles. This doesn’t mean that your Roomba can climb the stairs or anything, it just adopts the height differences.

On the other hand, the Neato Botvac Connected comes with two large wheels which actually lift up the vacuum to push it at higher levels.

4. Behavior

The Botvac Connected takes it job very seriously as it is a very aggressive vacuum. In a simple language, this vacuum sometimes cleans some particles that are larger than its own design and climbs at the areas where it should not go. The Roomba 980 is more sensitive to the things and obstacles that come in its way. It tries to avoid such things and not to get stuck in the areas. This may result in not 100% cleaning of the home as it avoids some parts that can cover dirt and debris.
